This editorial portrait series was designed to feel intimate, effortless, and quietly cinematic. Rather than centering the story on New York City itself, the city became a subtle backdrop providing atmosphere without competing for attention. The visual narrative follows the natural rhythm of the day, moving from soft daylight into the energy of the evening as wardrobe, mood, and lighting gradually evolve.

The first half of the session was photographed exclusively with natural light, embracing its softness and imperfections to create portraits that feel relaxed and lived-in. As daylight faded, flash was introduced to maintain the visual continuity while giving the imagery a more graphic, contemporary edge. The transition from daylight to flash mirrors the progression of the styling, shifting from understated, casual looks to darker tones and leather, creating a more confident and cinematic atmosphere as night falls.

Locations were carefully selected to evoke the character of New York without making the city the subject of the photographs. Quiet streets, understated architecture, and familiar neighborhood details provided context while allowing the focus to remain on Giovanni. Each location was chosen to support the feeling of authenticity, creating imagery that feels personal rather than performative.

The production was intentionally kept lean, allowing for flexibility and spontaneity throughout the session. Working with a small team made it possible to move fluidly between locations and respond naturally to changing light, resulting in portraits that feel genuine and unforced.
